Assistant Professor of German · Williams College
Peter A. Ogunniran is Assistant Professor of German and Faculty Affiliate in Africana Studies at Williams College, where he teaches on German colonialism, the Black diaspora, and literature as resistance. His book manuscript, Paper Empire: Print Culture and the Colonial Imagination in Imperial Germany, argues that narrative voice — not content — was the primary technology through which German print culture made colonial violence habitable for its domestic readers.
His article on Die Gartenlaube and the 1904 Saint Louis World's Fair appeared in Monatshefte 118.2 (2026). He co-chairs the Black Diaspora Studies Network of the German Studies Association, and holds a Ph.D from Washington University in St. Louis.
